In 2016, one in ten children will be sexual abused and 90% of these kids will know their abuser, they will have trusted their abuser*. One out of every seven sexual assaults on a child is perpetrated by a child under the age of 18 and will occur during the school day*. As parents, we are faced with a barrage of statistics and concerns, and images and stories that crush our hearts and wound our soul. We hear of "those" families whose child has sexually harmed one of their siblings and we wonder how that can happen in the "safety" of our homes. We struggle to know what to say, let alone help. Dark Grace is a safe, supportive group for families facing this unique struggle. When a child acts out sexually on a family member, the fallout is extreme and very unique and seems never ending. There are support groups for the victim, support groups for the offender, but nothing for the parents of both. Having a child who offends, and the child who was harmed in the same family, under the same roof is a nightmare that can seem to never end. Support is critical to know how to navigate the system, what is coming and the stages of healing. This is a group of families, all at differing stages in the journey, differing stages of healing all coming together to provide guidance, support but most of all hope through the storm. Please do not hesitate to call us or drop us a line if you or someone you know is facing this issue, we are here to help. The group is starting up again after a brief hiatus, and will be meeting every Wednesday night at 7 at 2030 Terry St, Suite F Longmont, Co 80501. Please let us know if you are coming so we can expect to get to meet you that week.
